Social Credit System as a New Tool in the Management of Citizens' Behavior: Problems and Prospects

Due to the widespread use of modern information technologies in many countries, government agencies and individual companies are trying to assess the trust, reputation and behavior of citizens on the basis of personal data. Such assessment is called a social credit. Based on Chinese experience, this article identifies the impact of the Social Credit System (SCS) on the behavior of citizens and the problems that it poses in society. The purpose of the study is determine the importance of SCS in the formation of e-government. For this purpose, the principles of SCS “warning and punishment” were studied and key indicators used in the system were identified. Suggestions were developed to improve the effectiveness of SCS and prevent damage to the reputation of a law-abiding citizen by the system. The assessment of citizens on the basis of social credit allows you to get an information about not only the behavior of each person in the country, but also get an information about the general social situation in society. The presence in a society of a large number of citizens with a high credit rating can be an indicator of high quality of life in society. It can also be an indicator of the correct management of society and state.

Role of Coronavirus Outbreak on Adoption of Electronic Education in New Bussa, Niger State, Nigeria

This study was carried out in New Bussa, Niger state, Nigeria to test the infallibility of the contention that coronavirus outbreak and suspension of physical educational services that accompanies its outbreak will positively or negatively affect demand for and adoption of electronic education (e-education) by students of various educational institutions in Nigeria. The study adopted an online survey made available via Google form to residents of the study area. Furthermore the online survey was accompanied by personal interview of school administrators and tertiary institution students. The survey questionnaire was made accessible to participants that were encouraged to fill the questionnaire online between 18th of October and 10th of November, 2020. The data retrieved were analysed using descriptive statistics and t-test. It was found that demand for and adoption of e-education through software resources was not significantly affected by coronavirus outbreak (μduring=3.90, μbefore=3.72, p>0.05), while e-education through radio and television broadcast was found to be significantly affected by coronavirus outbreak (μduring=4.83, μbefore=4.53, p<0.05). Level of income (as such, high cost of data) was found to have effect on demand for and adoption of e-education software resources. Furthermore, social media channels and generalised software applications (with reduced or no cost of data) were found to be the most adopted software resources at the expense of proprietary e-education software resources. It is therefore recommended that Nigerian government should find a way to reduce internet access cost to enable effective adoption of electronic education through mobile and website applications.

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Based Identification of Risk Factors and Incidence of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Pakistan

The disease burden of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) varies across the globe and have a significant impact on the overall health of the communities. A number of complications and diseases stem from chronic GERD. In order to provide improved healthcare measures and to effectively monitor and control GERD, it is important to identify rate of incidence of the disease and the associated risk factors along with symptoms. Therefore, this study was conducted by retrieving the relevant data through machine learning. Principles of Artificial Neural Networks were applied to sort the data and the results were obtained in the form of a network by using VOSviewer software. These artificial intelligence and machine learning based results reveal that the Asian population is increasingly becoming prone to GERD and sporadic reports from Pakistan have surmounted to disclose that GERD is constantly present across different districts and cities of Pakistan. The major risk factors identified among the Pakistani population in different research articles include consumption of oily foods, the habit of having late dinners, sedentary lifestyles and a lack of understanding about disease diagnosis, and GERD management and treatment. Our results suggest that acid reflux and inflammation of esophageal cavity are some of the main symptoms of the disease. On the basis of the results obtained, it is speculated that this study will provide a ground to improve the symptomatic diagnosis of GERD by closely observing and analyzing the risk factors and the rate of incidence with symptoms. It would enable the healthcare facilities to effectively monitor the GERD cases so that the disease burden due to GERD and related illnesses could be reduced. Moreover, the identification of regional differences and a comparative data would help us in identifying the disease hotspots where more efforts would be needed to manage and control the disease.

The Impact of COVID-19 on the Academic Performance of Students: A Psychosocial Study Using Association and Regression Model

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected every sector of human activities. The outbreak has not only resulted in the risk of death from infection but has greatly affected the education system globally. While universities around the world have adapted to academic changes because of this pandemic, some other universities such as in Nigeria seem to be far behind. Therefore, this study aims to understand the impact of COVID-19 on students in higher institutions in Nigeria. The study utilizes an interactive survey design to get responses from 1533 respondents who are students of tertiary institutions. Two sampling techniques, namely snow-balling and purposive, are used to administer the questionnaire. The participants are representative samples from across the 6 geo-political zones of Nigeria. The results from the descriptive analysis reveals that 11.6% of the respondents have been able to continue school online and 41.4% have a level of doubt about the ability of their school can adapt to the learning mode occurring globally. Inferential analysis was carried out to understand the association and regression between variables. Results from Chi-Square Test of association show that students from public universities are economically more affected than those from private universities (P-value < .005). The ordinal logistic model considered multiple independent variables. Results from the logistic model showed that the future effect of COVID-19 on career/academic progression of students hold, irrespective of discipline or degree of study or university category or level/year of study. Furthermore, 30% of the students, regardless of their discipline, degree of study, or university category expressed extreme or moderate hopelessness about their academic future concerning the pandemic. 
The study has shown that the pandemic did not only lead to physical, technological, and economical challenges to education for Nigerian students, but also psychosocial challenges (such as hopelessness and high level of distrust for the existing educational systems) that may affect the way student engage and commit to their education in the post-pandemic world. This provides educational stakeholders including policy makers the adequate data needed to understand how exactly students have been affected and supportive measure to implement as tertiary institutions reopen for learning.

A Conceptual Framework for Software Engineering Education: Project Based Learning Approach Integrated with Industrial Collaboration

A vital portion of software engineering education is practical learning and experience of principles, methods and procedures for the development of real-time software. Yet, software engineering educators have been using the traditional approaches for SE education since long back, which is being revealed as an inefficient method of learning approach and bring up the gap between graduates and software industries. Therefore, instructors are required to train their students based on professional skills, real-time experience and well prepare them for real time environment upon graduation.  
This paper presents an educational framework for the implementation of PBL (Project Based Learning) approach with industry collaboration in order to reduce the gap between both parties. This is an effective and efficient approach for teaching and learning SE education as compared to the traditional and lecture-based approach, in which students are trained with real-time projects and market-oriented aspects, which is not seen in the traditional approach. Moreover, it helps students to gain complete knowledge of software engineering concepts, Hard and Soft skills, Software design process and principles with more confidence over real-time projects.
