Study on Effect Theory of Price Changes with MathCAD

By Hongshun Su

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.02, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

By the computation and plotting of MathCAD, the effect theory of pricing changes is further studied, and an important conclusion is proved: Hicks demand curve and Slutsky demand curve move with the initial price changes, whereas Marshall demand curve remains invariably. This result enriches the effect theory of price changes. Moreover, MathCAD offers an auxiliary tool for practical researches, and realizes the perfect integration of economy, mathematics and computer science.

A Study of Improving the Competitiveness of Local Undergraduate Colleges

By ZHANG Yaqiang JING Ruirong

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.03, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

This article discussed strategies innovation and the improvement of competitiveness for local undergraduate colleges by using organizational management and organizational strategy theory. Local colleges should emphasize on the strategic direction of becoming "Qualified Undergraduate Colleges ", be master of advanced experiences as a strategic tool, and continue to optimize the core operating process, so that it can reflect the organizational rules and logic of colleges to calculate the “outside-system” differentiated capabilities, rather than apply the logic of administrative mechanism. At the same time, we use managing environment as “optimal solution” to the strategic innovation of college, positively impact and systematically manage the diversified college industrial environment and bring forward the organizational guarantee mode.

A Study on Higher Vocational College Students’ Academic Procrastination Behavior and Related Factors

By Yusheng Ying Wei Lv

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.05, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

The purpose of this study was to examine academic procrastination behavior among higher vocational college students and explore the predictability of such variables as academic self-efficacy, academic frustration tolerance, achievement motivation, grade and gender. 440 students from two higher vocational colleges were taken as subjects. The results showed that (1) 41.6% of the subjects exhibited a high level of academic procrastination. (2) Students in Grade Three procrastinated more often than students in Grade One. (3) Male students showed more academic procrastination behavior than female students. (4) Academic self-efficacy, academic frustration tolerance and motive to avoid failure were desirable predictive variables for academic procrastination. (5) High procrastinators’ academic self-efficacy, academic frustration tolerance and motive to approach success were significantly lower than those of low procrastinators’, but their motive to avoid failure was significantly higher than that of low procrastinators’

An Efficient Pairwise Key Establishment Scheme for Sensor Networks

By Xiaole Liu Wangao Li

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.06, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

Pair key establishment is a fundamental security service in wireless sensor networks (WSNs); it enables sensor nodes to communicate securely with each other using cryptographic techniques. However, due to the resource constraints, establishing pairwise keys in sensor networks is a challenging problem. Several key management schemes have been proposed in literature to establish pairwise keys between sensor nodes; they either too complicated, or insecure for some common attacks. To address these weakness, we propose an efficient pairwise key management scheme in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the sensor nodes are divided into groups and any compromised sensor node will not disclose the key information in the sensor nodes in same group. The analysis shows that compared with existing approaches, this proposed scheme has better network resilience against node capture attack.

Development of GIS Application System on OCCI and MapX

By Li Guangshi

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.07, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

Exploring a method of developing application system which can access and manipulate a mass of spatial data effectively under integration storage mode of GIS data in Oracle Spatial, is the research hot spot. This paper defines more compact, robust and reliable class modules for accessing spatial data, carries on the visualization processing of spatial data using MapX, and gives a method for enhancing the ability to manipulate spatial data in GIS system through using OCCI to call spatial operators in Oracle Spatial, which unites advantages of OCCI, MapX and Spatial to develop GIS application system fully.

A New Color on Discrimination Based on Characteristics of the Vehicle License Plate Location

By Xiaole Liu Cailing Wang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.09, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

The license plate recognition system, the license plate location is one of the important technologies, can accurately complete the orientation will directly affect the follow-up of the character segmentation and recognition. This paper presents a new color on discrimination based on characteristics of the vehicle license plate location, Firstly, edge detection, image enhancement preprocessing, effectively highlighting the license plate features, And then by line scanning of the plate rough location, and color-based features to distinguish the license plate location method further extract the real license plate. Experiments show that with the car in a complex background, this method can accurately locate the license plate.

Wind Power Turbine and Its Aerodynamic Characteristics

By Xianyi Qian Yiming He

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.11, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

We have mainly studied wind power turbine’s aerodynamic characteristics in this paper. We first introduced the types of wind power turbines, and then analyzed the force on the vanes which caused by air flow. We also studied the geometry shape of vanes’ type and its aerodynamic characteristics. At last, we concluded the corresponding formulas about wind power turbine’s aerodynamic characteristics. All what we have studied have important role to design wind power turbine’s vanes.

Research on Resource-based and Theme-oriented College English Teaching

By Hong Zhou

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijeme.2012.07.12, Pub. Date: 29 Jul. 2012

Guided by the sociocultural theory and input theory, a research was conducted to probe into resource-based and theme-oriented college English teaching. It discusses the principles of college English language materials selection and how theme-oriented teaching activities enhance meaningful language input and output. The results show that the teaching mode can improve students’ multiple intelligences on a large scale and facilitate the transformation between students’ explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge. Being resource-based and theme-oriented, the mode helps broaden students’ horizon, cultivate their humanistic quality, enhance students’ information quality and boost the effects of language learning.
