A Quantitative Analysis of Postgraduate Programmes Admission of the Hong Kong Institute of Education

This paper analyzed 8 years’ student admission trend of Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) postgraduate programmes in 2 time slots. In the first time period, year 2007-2010, we use the waterfall and competing pattern model for the quantitative analysis of the postgraduate programmes in a holistic manner of HKIEd, and further study the general student admission trend of year 2011-2013, due to the sharp increase of mainland China students and the 3-3-4 Scheme Education System Reform in 2011 and 2012. In this paper, we utilize this rich collection of programmes to identify usable admission patterns by analyzing admission data of the past years for reinforcing the institute’s strength and reputation, whose programme spectrum was expanded and enhanced quite drastically since 2005 with the introduction of 1st Master in Education cohort. In particular, this paper is focused to locate: 1) if there is any internal competition and how severe the competition is. 2) If there is any programme that can be utilized as strategic recruitment? and 3) the general student admission trend of the 8 years. With this study, management can better understand where the sources of applicants come from. New insight can be drawn and new strategy can be defined to recruit more quality students which are also aligned with our strategic move to transform the students. The methods used in this paper can be easily applied in other University for analyzing the admission issues, and can demonstrate to management how operation data can be utilized to form valuable insights and significant improvement can then be made based on these identified facts.

Medical Students Dynamic Effort on Understanding of RNAi Therapeutic Application in Sri Lanka

This study examines students’ understanding of the normative connections between key concepts of genetics, and RNAi and underlying biological principles that are critical for an in-depth understanding of RNAi therapeutic application on Medical field. Using a structural questionnaire, we examine randomly selected Medical faculty students’ understanding of genetic relationships at Faculty of Medicine and Allied Sciences, University of Rajarata, Sri Lanka. A total of 80 Medical faculty students participated in this study and completed written questionnaire on genetics and RNAi therapeutic application. Findings from this study were there is a strong positive response on basic genetics studies in this content, but when it considers knowledge on RNAi and new technology based on RNAi therapeutic application is poorly understood. Almost all the students had a good knowledge on DNA but not the relationship between gene and DNA. Specifically, students were requested to demonstrate an integrated understanding of the RNAi therapeutic application, almost 96% of them unable to give an example for it, and also some students struggled to explain it. Outcome of this study is preliminary in nature; the results provide a glimpse of genetics education in Sri Lanka need to uplift.

A Novel Quaternary Full Adder Cell Based on Nanotechnology

Binary logic circuits are limited by the requirement of interconnections. A feasible solution is to transmit more information over a signal line and utilizing multiple-valued logic (MVL). This paper presents a novel high performance quaternary full adder cell based on carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNTFET). The proposed Quaternary full adder is designed in multiple valued voltage mode. CNTFET is a promising candidate for replacing MOSFET with some useful properties, such as the capability of having the desired threshold voltage by regulating the diameters of the nanotubes, which make them very appropriate for voltage mode multiple threshold circuits design. The proposed circuit is examined, using Synopsys HSPICE with the standard 32 nm CNTFET technology with different temperatures and supply voltages.

An Adaptable E-Learning Architecture Based on Learners’ Profiling

These days modifications and supplements to e-learning are not enough to make them successful since flexibility and adaptability is missing. Different e-Learning architecture provide different kinds of learning experience to the learners. The lack of adaptive system is due to “One size fits for all” concept. Currently the research is towards to learner oriented platforms putting student motivation, habits, expectations and learning styles (additional Koper, R.; Burgos, D (2005)). The concept of adaptation has become a prominent issue in e-learning. Systems allow the users to change some system parameters and adapt their behavior accordingly is known as adaption process. Systems that adapt based on the systems assumption are called as adaptive systems (additional santally mohammed issack). Since the system adapts to a person and personalizes the learning process it can be also known as personalized system (additional Paramythis, A.; Loidl-Reisinger). So to serve the learning community better there was a necessity to profile them and identify their requirements and provide an adaptive e-learning architecture which suits the individuals needs better. So the main objective of this research was to provide an adaptive e-learning system architecture which satisfies Felder Silverman learning style. Felder-Silverman’s learning model [FSLM] was chosen since FSLM synthesis of these theories can be designed to easily translate them into strategies into a university setup.

Study of Task Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment Using Soft Computing Algorithms

Cloud computing is a popular computing concept that performs processing of huge volume of data using highly accessible geographically distributed resources that can be accessed by users on the basis of Pay as per Use policy. Requirements of different users may change so the amount of processing involved in such paradigm also changes. Sometimes they need huge data processing. Such highly volumetric processing results in higher computing time and cost which is not a desirable part of a good computing model. So there must be some intelligent distribution of user's work on the available resources which will result in an optimized computing environment. An Efficient Virtual Machine Scheduling Technique in Cloud Computing Environment

Cloud is a collection of heterogeneous resources and requirements of these resources can change dynamically. Cloud providers are always interested in maximizing the resources utilization and the associated revenues, by trimming down energy consumption and operational expenses, while on the other hand cloud users are interested in minimizing response time and optimizing overall application throughput. In cloud environment to allocate the resources with minimum overhead time along with efficient utilization of available resources is very challenging task. The resources in cloud datacenter are allocated using a virtual machine (VM) scheduling technique. So there is a need of an efficient VM scheduling technique to maximize system performance and cost saving. In this paper two dynamic virtual machine scheduling techniques i.e. Best fit and Worst fit are proposed for reducing the response time along with efficient and balanced resource utilization. The proposed algorithms removes the limitations of the previously proposed Novel Vector based algorithm and minimizes the response time complexity in order of O(log n) and O(1) using Best Fit and Worst Fit strategies respectively.

Software Inspection in Software Industry: A Pakistan's Perspective

It is another name for best available services and is made acceptable through many practices like reviews, inspections and testing. Among these software inspection is the one which is cost efficient and easy to implement technique. Software inspection is composed of many activities to result in improving the underlying document better and creates consistent understanding. This research presents the different activities in the inspection and practicing of these activities in the software industry of Pakistan. This research is carried out through questionnaires. The answers demonstrate that software inspection is source of better quality products and customer satisfaction without using any proper framework of inspection.
