Securing Peer-to-Peer Distributions with Trusted Platform Modules

By Hao Li Yu Qin Qianying Zhang Shijun Zhao

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.01, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

We present a novel solution that allows one platform to securely distribute or redistribute digital contents to another in P2P networks. The solution is based on platforms with Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs). It maintains the confidentiality and freshness of digital contents during the processes of distribution. Given an ideal (tamper-proof) trusted platform, the solution can even withstand attacks by dishonest users during the processes of usage. Moreover, it can also be used to redistribute n-time-use digital content offline, so it is more flexible and scalable than other related distribution solutions to enable widespread deployment. Lastly, by adding a few simple features to TPMs, our solution can easily prevent the malicious sender and receiver from colluding when the redistribution takes place, so we can ensure that they can not gain more than a previously defined amount of rights without contacting the content provider.

Identifying Protein Structural Classes Using MVP Algorithm

By Tong Wang Xiaoming Hu Xiaoxia Cao

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.02, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

A new method for the prediction of protein structural classes is constructed based on MVP (Maximum variance projection) algorithm, which is a manifold learning-based data mining method. DC (Dipeptide Composition) and PseAA (Pseudo Amino Acid) are used as conditional attributes for the construction of decision system. A DR (Dimensionality Reduction) algorithm, the so-called MVP is introduced to reduce the decision system, which can be used to classify new objects. Experimental results thus obtained are quite encouraging, which indicate that the above method is used effectively to deal with this complicated problem of protein structural classes.

Adaptive HEC-VPS: The Real-time Reliable Wireless Multimedia Multicast Scheme

By Guoping Tan Yueheng Li Lili Zhang Yong Lu

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.03, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

To satisfy the reliability of real-time wireless multimedia multicast services, the existing erasure error correction schemes usually assume that the packet size in transmissions is fixed. However, recent studies have shown that Variable Packet Size (VPS) can deeply influence the performance of unicast wireless services. Accordingly, using a delay-limited general architecture of EEC for real-time wireless multicast, this paper proposes an Adaptive Hybrid Error Correction (AHEC) scheme with VPS. Comparing with the AHEC schemes with fixed packet size, the analysis results show that the AHEC with VPS scheme can improve the throughput by about 10% in some cases.

A New Secure Strategy for Small-Scale IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network

By Huiting Liu Hua ZHANG Weilin Xu Yigang Yang

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.04, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

As the main secret-key encryption techniques of the wireless local area network (WLAN) have been proven to be unsafe, wireless network security is faced with serious challenges. It is unpractical for home users and small companies to buy expansive network equipments to improve the network security. Therefore, the secure strategy of wireless network needs to be changed. In this paper, we first introduce secure issues of the main secret-key encryption techniques currently adopted by the most popular commercial wireless routers. Then we propose a new strategy for small-scale IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network which can strengthen the network security. The new secure strategy is based on web authentication with unshared key and virtual local area network (VLAN) in wireless network. It can provide protection against practical attacks which are popular nowadays. Moreover, it is simple, wieldy and low-cost.

By GONG Bing XU Yi-tao LI Jia LIU Zhong-jun

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.05, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

In this paper, we introduce a robust method for wideband DOA estimation which does not require any preliminary DOA estimation or calibration of the array during the whole estimating process with the performance similar to the autofocusing approach. Our method is based on the autofocusing approach and uses the ESPRIT algorithm during the narrowband processing stage. Meanwhile, we suggest the method of selecting the best focusing frequency which minimizes the mean square error.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.06, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

Selecting high quality web services based upon QoS(Quality of Service) is a significant task in service-oriented computing environments. In this paper, according a real Quality of Web Service data sets:QWS Dataset (1.0), we developed a Weighted Grey Relational Analysis Model(WGRAM) for web service selection based on QoS, and combined with Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) to prioritize the relative importance of the QoS of web services. The comprehensive evaluation model (WGRAM) fully considered the influence of many factors given by experts, incorporating the qualitative analysis of the index of various factors and the quantization for scientific decision-making, it can provide weighted grey relational degree for each Web Services with the same functions(operations), and the grey relational sequence which can guide the optimal service selection from multiple functions similar service. The model possessed the characteristic of simple calculating process, and the result was reliable, It’s a reliable and effective method of web service quality factor assessment and a significant attempt for web services selection.

By Hu Chang Jun Yao Shan Hua

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.07, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

This paper resent a data collection method of using mobile sink and static sink together against “thermal region” in wireless sensor network. The mobile sink visits the remote-cluster and communicates with the head node directly, thus reducing both the energy cost of multi-hop transmission in long distance and the frequency of data forwarding in clusters near the static sink. Simulation results showed that the added mobile sink extended the network lifetime and expanded the capacity of network.

Construction of Periodic Complementary Multiphase Sequences Based on Perfect Sequences

By Zhenyu Zhang Fanxin Zeng Guixin Xuan

DOI: https://doi.org/10.5815/ijwmt.2012.04.10, Pub. Date: 15 Aug. 2012

This paper provides a construction method of periodic complementary multiphase sequences. The proposed method is based on perfect sequences possessing ideal periodic auto-correlation properties. By interleaving any two different perfect sequences with the same length, a kernel set of periodic complementary sequence with multiphase elements can be generated. Compared with the known periodic complementary binary sequences, the presented periodic complementary multiphase sequences may obtain much more lengths of element sequences, which will assure that the generated sequences can provide a more flexible choice of parameters for communication systems.
